As someone who values independence and accessibility, I rely on a handful of devices that make my day-to-day life easier and more efficient. These tools aren’t just helpful; they’re essential for allowing me to work, relax, and stay connected. Let me share the devices I use daily to navigate accessibility in my life.
External Power Button for My PC
The first device I use every day is an external power button for my PC. This small yet incredibly useful tool has made it easy for me to turn on my computer without assistance. The power button on my PC tower is located too far for me to reach, but I found a solution on Amazon: an external button that connects to the PC. This little device has been a game-changer, allowing me to power up my computer independently to work on school projects or write content for my blog and videos.
Standing Desk
My standing desk is another indispensable part of my setup. It allows me to adjust the height to the perfect level for working or gaming, ensuring that I’m always comfortable and supported. The desk also comes equipped with built-in plugs on the side, which makes it even more accessible. Whether I’m plugging in my laptop or charging my phone, everything I need is within easy reach.
Smart Light Switch
Lighting is no longer a challenge, thanks to my smart light switch. This switch connects to the Kasa app by TP-Link, letting me control the lights in my room with a simple tap on my phone. I can turn my lights on or off independently, even from across the room. It’s one of those small conveniences that makes a huge difference in my daily routine.
Xbox Controller
After a day of work or writing, I like to unwind by playing video games. Fortunately, I’m able to use a standard Xbox controller without difficulty. However, I’m aware that there are accessible gaming controllers available, and I plan to try them out soon to see how they work for me. Gaming is a big part of how I relax, and it’s great to know that there are options for people with different needs.
Kindle
As I’ve mentioned in a previous blog, I’ve been trying to get back into reading, and my Kindle has been a fantastic tool for this. I received it as a birthday gift, and it has completely changed the way I enjoy books. The Kindle is lightweight and easy to carry, but what I love most is its touchscreen. Turning pages is a breeze, making reading accessible and enjoyable for me again.
Reflecting on 2024
This year has been a milestone for me and my blog. It’s been an absolute pleasure to share my experiences and help people learn about accessibility. Whether it’s through sharing tips, reviewing places, or talking about the devices I use, I’m proud to have been a resource for others. As 2024 comes to a close, I’m filled with hope and excitement for the future. I look forward to continuing this journey and helping even more people for years to come.
Technology has the power to transform lives, and I’m grateful for these tools that allow me to navigate my day with ease. If you’re looking for ways to make your space more accessible, I hope these insights can help you find the right tools for your needs.
