I've been running Accessible Outings for almost a year now, sharing my experiences navigating the world as a wheelchair user. While I’ve talked a lot about accessibility, I realized I haven't shared much about myself. So, I think it’s time to let you in on some personal details! Here are 10 things you probably didn’t know about me.
1. I Was Diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at 3 Months Old
At just three months old, I was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy, a condition that meant I would be wheelchair-bound for life. While it has come with its challenges, I’ve never let it stop me from living life to the fullest.
2. Baseball is My Favorite Sport
Growing up, my dad introduced me to baseball, and I became a lifelong fan of the Texas Rangers. Between watching them play and learning the game from my dad, I fell in love with baseball. Nothing beats the thrill of a live game at the ballpark!
3. I’m a Huge Tech Enthusiast
I love learning about new technology and the latest innovations in the tech world. I even built my own PC with the help of my brother, which was a fun and rewarding project.
4. I’m an Audiophile
Music is a huge part of my life, and I listen to a wide variety of genres like Country, EDM, Pop, Alternative, and Rock. I also enjoy learning about music production and how some of my favorite songs are made.
5. I’m a Journalism Student
I’m currently a student at the University of North Texas, where I’m about a year and a half away from graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. My passion for storytelling and writing has fueled my journey through college.
6. I’m Bilingual (and Learning a Third Language!)
I speak both English and Spanish fluently and am currently learning Italian as my third language. Being able to communicate in different languages has been an amazing experience.
7. I Love Concerts and Sporting Events
Whether it's seeing my favorite team play or watching a live performance from an artist I love, I’m all about the energy of live events. There’s nothing quite like the excitement of being in the crowd and experiencing it firsthand.
8. I Have a Dog and Two Cats
My house is always lively thanks to my three pets—a dog and two cats. They bring so much joy and entertainment into my life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
9. My 86-Year-Old Grandma Lives with Us
Having my grandmother live with us has been a special experience. Through her stories and the food she makes, she has taught me a lot about my Mexican roots and culture.
10. I Love to Travel
Although traveling as a wheelchair user can be challenging, I refuse to let it stop me from exploring new places. I hope to one day travel the world, experiencing different cultures and making unforgettable memories along the way.
Conclusion
I hope this list gives you a little more insight into who I am beyond the accessibility reviews and experiences I share. Whether it’s my love for sports, music, tech, travel, or family, all of these things shape who I am and fuel my passion for sharing my journey with you all. Thanks for following along, and I can’t wait to continue sharing my experiences with you!
