Finding ways to make day-to-day life easier is a big part of maintaining my independence. Over time, I’ve come across some great tools that help me navigate daily tasks with more ease. Whether I’m out and about or just at home, these small but essential devices make a big difference in my accessibility. Here are a few more tools that I use regularly to keep my day running smoothly.

1. Folding Plastic Straw

One of the most useful tools I carry with me is a plastic folding straw. Since I’m always on the go around DFW, I’m not always near a straw or a place where I can bring my Giraffe Water Bottle. That’s where my folding straw comes in—it’s compact, easy to clean, and super convenient. Whether I’m grabbing a drink at a restaurant or stopping for a quick refreshment somewhere, this straw ensures that I always have a way to drink comfortably.

2. Travel Utensil Set

Another must-have in my bag is my travel utensil set. There have been many times when I’ve gone to a restaurant or event where the utensils were too heavy for me to use easily, or there were no utensils available at all. This lightweight set ensures that I always have a comfortable way to eat, no matter where I am. It’s such a simple thing, but it makes a huge difference in making meals more accessible and enjoyable for me.

3. Back Scratcher (But Not Just for Scratching!)

While most people might use a back scratcher for, well, scratching their back, I actually use mine for something else entirelygrabbing things that are just out of my reach. Whether it’s a remote, my phone, or something that has fallen off my desk, my back scratcher helps me reach and grab things without having to ask for help. It’s one of those tools that I never expected to use as much as I do, but now I can’t imagine not having it nearby.

Conclusion

Having the right tools can make all the difference in maintaining independence and accessibility throughout the day. These simple yet effective items—my folding straw, travel utensil set, and back scratcher—have become essential to my daily routine. Whether I’m out at a restaurant, grabbing a drink on the go, or just needing to reach something a little too far away, these tools ensure that I can handle things on my own as much as possible.

I hope sharing these tools gives you some insight into how small accessibility solutions can have a big impact. If you have any must-have tools that make your day more accessible, I’d love to hear about them!
