Nordstrom Made Accessible: A Wheelchair User’s Perspective

Nordstrom is often synonymous with luxury and style, and for wheelchair users, its spacious layout can offer a more accessible shopping experience. However, while the physical environment is accommodating, the availability of staff for assistance is another story.


Space and Accessibility


The store I visited was large and spacious, making it easy to maneuver around in my wheelchair. The merchandise was well-organized and within reach, which was a relief as I could browse comfortably without needing much assistance. There were also very few people in the store, which added to the ease of navigating. However, despite these positives, the lack of visible staff was a noticeable downside.


Personal Experience at Nordstrom


With Nordstrom being such a prominent retail store, I decided to stop by and see what they had to offer. I wasn’t looking for anything specific, but I hoped to discover something new and exciting. Browsing the store was effortless, thanks to the wide aisles and minimal foot traffic. Unfortunately, when I wanted to find the dress shoe department, I couldn’t locate any staff to assist me. After spending some time searching for help, I ultimately decided to leave. While the store’s layout was a win for accessibility, the absence of staff made the overall experience less enjoyable.


Final Rating: 4 out of 5


Nordstrom’s spacious layout and accessible merchandise placement make it a comfortable shopping destination for wheelchair users. However, the lack of staff on the floor could pose a challenge for those needing assistance. I’m giving Nordstrom a 4 out of 5 and hope they improve staff availability to make the experience even better for everyone.
